Mohammad Beigi said Iran currently has the most serious connection with Russia concerning international credit cards, adding good steps have been taken in technical area.

He stated some tests are being conducted, mentioning during the recent months the tests' speed decreased because of legal discussions and if a connection wants to be implemented, a contract must be inked between two countries and their central banks.

Beigi made the remarks that Mir Payment System had to be operated in December, but it hasn't been completed due to the legal issues yet.

"Since there is no a contract yet, Russian side mentioned there are some problems for operating Mir Payment System",Director of CBI's payment systems department said.

Mohammad Beigi went on to say that we have sent some changes to Russian side, adding one of the key points as to international communications is security standards and business, but in Iran despite all developments in electronic banking field, we couldn't have connection with international community. Hence many Iranian banks don't have preparation in this area.

The official said the cards will be in rial and customers can use them abroad, namely based on a rate which is agreed with Central bank, the money is paid in foreign exchange but it is withdrawn rial from customer's account.

Director of CBI's payment systems department said we have a same pattern with Russia not in smart cards, but in magnet cards field.

It is worth noting that the seventh Annual Conference on Electronic Banking and Payment Systems by focusing on "Innovation, New Players and Effectiveness in Financial Business issues will be held on second and third of Bahman month (23,24 of January,2018) by Monetary and Banking Research Institute in Milad Tower's International Conference Hall.
