Iran Ranks First in MENA Region to Absorb Capital

Iran’s Organization of Investment and Economic and Technical Assistance reported Iran went to the first place in MENA region by absorbing more than 13 billion dollars of foreign investment in post-sanction period.

Iran’s Organization of Investment and Economic and Technical Assistance reported the total capital entered and invested during the eleventh government stood at 11 thousand and 236 million dollars.



Based on the report the absorbed capital includes the capital declared by Iran’s banking system, Customs, Oil Ministry, Stock Exchange Organization and Free Trade Zones Organization.



This report reveals that the volume of capital invested in Iran by overseas sources is definitely more than the registered figure and the Organization of Investment and Economic and Technical Assistance of Iran is reviewing all items across the country.



It is worth noting that according to UNCTAD’s report (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development) in 2015 the amount of foreign investment entered Iran was 2.05 billion USD, while it increased to 3.372 billion dollars in 2016, indicating 65 growth from the year earlier.



This report also shows Iran’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance announced the total amount of foreign investment in post-sanction period was 13.242 billion dollars.



Furthermore, Iran’s Organization of Investment and Economic and Technical Assistance is considering some foreign investment (non-finance) projects, submitted by 46 foreign investors, valuing at more than 3 billion dollars.



Iran’s Organization of Investment and Economic and Technical Assistance’s report disclosed the most volume of foreign investment between 1384 to 1395 is devoted to 1395 in terms of quantity and investment value, registered 137 foreign investments.



It has been mentioned that Iran’s rank for absorbing foreign investment in 2016 was 51st out of 201 nations. Moreover, Iran’s place in MENA region (Middle East and North Africa) based on its growth rate is 1st and Iran ranked 18th among Asian countries in 2016.
