Seyyed Kamel Taghavinejad says the total amount of national tax evasion stands somewhere between 13 to 20 trillion tomans. Medical doctors, according to Taghavinejad, pay only an annual amount below 200 billion tomans in taxes.

Highlighting the seriousness of the issue of tax evasion in the medics’ community, the deputy economy minister added that the net share, based on the organization’s estimates for medical doctors, should be around three to four times larger than the figure currently paid by them.

Taghavinejad’s report also shows that doctors in cities other than the capital Tehran are responding to tax demands with more transparency.

The official also complained that some doctors and dentists have removed the “point of sale” (POS) machines from their clinics in an effort to prevent the tax organization from tracking their turnover. He noted, however, that the organization is treating those cases with lenience.
