IBENA quoted Botshekan as making the remark in an address to the round-table meeting on Non-Performing Loans, Frozen Assets and Mechanisms of Overhauling Banking Statements on the sidelines of the 27th Annual Conference on Monetary and Foreign Exchange Policies.

The meeting opened at the I.R.I.B International Conference Center in Tehran on July 1 and will end on July 2.

Botshekan said per statistics available by the Central Bank of Iran (CBI), total banking assets amounted to 10.7 billion and banking facilities, excluding bad debts, was 10,000 billion rials.

“According to (the CBI Governor) Valiollah Seif 45 percent of banking assets are frozen. Taking collection of banking assets into consideration, 7,650 billion rials of the banking assets are frozen.”

So, 70 percent of banking assets have no or poor quality, he added.

According to the Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei we are in need of a clear road map in the field to specify the kind of measures to be taken as remedy, said the senior banker, adding that having reviewed all banking policies decade long, he had found out that they are useless and ineffective.
