Declining Growth Rate of Inflation in May 2019

The consumer price index rose 1.5 percent in May this year, the lowest increase in the last seven months.

According to IBENA, the Economic Research Deputy of Tehran Chamber of Commerce has reported on the rate of inflation over the course of the year, according to the Statistics Center of Iran, and said: The consumer prices index increased by 1.5 percent in April 2019 compared to April 2018 and reached about 173.5. This figure increased by 52% compared to May of the previous year.

, In May 2019, the growth rate of the consumer price index was reduced, as it seems that in May 2019 the average prices increased at a lowest pace over the past seven months.



Given that the monthly price index for food and beverages was negative in May, the average price drop for these items compared to April, was the most important factor in slowing down the consumer price index in May.



Another factor affecting the inflaton, is the average price of housing (rental and maintenance of residential units), which has a 31.1% share in the calculation of the consumer price index, and its growth rate in May 2019 compared to April has dropped.



Among the goods and services consumed in May, the average price of bread and cereals increased by 8.3% and the sugar group grew by 13.8% over the month which are the highest growths.
